Amazon LEO is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Amazon LEO will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity. We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a broad background in the design, analysis, reliability, and lifetime of mechanical systems and avionics. The ideal candidate has extensive experience performing design, analysis, sizing, and selection of mechanical mechanisms and components including gears, bearings, lubricants, motors, and gearboxes for space environments. This is a hands-on role for a highly collaborative individual that combines technical and analytical capabilities to convert analytic trade studies to a qualified physical design, while optimizing for high volume production and meeting cross discipline requirements. Key job responsibilities * Use knowledge and experience in understanding, collaborating and trading complex inputs from multiple other disciplines (Electrical, RF, Optics, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test) to guide the team and arrive at a viable technical approach * Generate detailed designs with CAD assemblies/components and drawings as deliverables. * Coordinate with other engineers, manufacturing and assembly to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of production are achieved * Documentation and presentation of materials for technical design reviews. * Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for space hardware A day in the life You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. - 4 years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience - Experience with prototyping and implementation - Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering - 5 years of engineering experience - 5 years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience - 4 years of hardware development, test lab, space/aerospace maintenance or hands-on engineering environment experience - Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures - Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis. - Experience in DFM and manufacturing process development. Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators. - Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools - Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume - 5 years of hardware engineering experience - Experience leading engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product - Experience working in Jira or similar workflow management software - Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities - Experience with NX, TeamCenter - Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
