CalPortland, a leader in the building materials industry since 1891, is seeking a skilled Shop Mechanic to join our team. This position is critical to the day-to-day operations at our mining and quarrying sites, ensuring that all equipment operates at peak efficiency. As a Shop Mechanic, you will work on a variety of heavy machinery and vehicles used in the production of cement, concrete, aggregates, and asphalt. This role requires a hands-on, safety-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic, physical work environment. Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks on heavy machinery and vehicle fleets, including excavators, loaders, dump trucks, and conveyors. Diagnose mechanical issues and provide timely solutions to minimize downtime. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work and repairs. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, promoting a safe work environment. Collaborate with the maintenance team and management to optimize maintenance schedules and practices. Keep the shop area clean and organized to ensure a safe working environment. Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills. Proficiency with hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics. Welding and fabrication skills are preferred. Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance ASE Certification is preferred. Certification in Heavy Equipment Mechanics is a plus.
